ESEA Prize Payments Update

Over the last few years ESEA has grown tremendously with the ESEA League giving out over $450,000 a year and the Rank S system having given out over $1,000,000 over the course of the last two years.

However, as prize pools increase unfortunately so does the risk of fraud with imposters impersonating other players to try to claim prize money that they themselves have not won. Similarly we have seen an increase in fraud, for example, with  submissions of deliberately falsified tax documentation. As a result ESEA will be moving forward with a new "Know Your Customer" process to raise the standards in esports prize payments and anti-fraud.

What this means for you

If you win a cash prize, along with your prize forms, you will need to go through a simple identification verification process. Other non-cash prizes such as skins or ESEA points are currently unaffected.

ESEA has partnered with an experienced third-party, Sum&Substance, to validate your identity. Sum&Substance are an industry leader in online verification, supporting thousands of document types and have verified over 10,000,000 unique identities. You can read more about Sub&Substance and their work, here.
